Diabetes Mellitus

diabetes

Diabetes is a chronic condition characterized by a disturbance in the metabolism of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins. The main and common disturbance in all forms of diabetes is hyperglycemia, i.e., elevated blood sugar levels. Our center provides nutritional education aimed at regulating blood sugar levels and improving quality of life.

The education is addressed to people with:

• Type 1 Diabetes, where insulin secretion is reduced, and thus, it must be replaced externally.
• Type 2 Diabetes, where insulin activity is reduced and there is overproduction of insulin. Antidiabetic medications are primarily prescribed to optimize insulin function.
• Gestational Diabetes, where insulin secretion is reduced only during pregnancy and usually returns to normal levels after childbirth.
• Prediabetes – Insulin Resistance, where insulin secretion and activity are reduced, but it improves with proper diet and exercise.

Therefore, in all cases, insulin alone cannot regulate blood sugar levels after a meal. It is important that the meal composition is such that glucose levels do not rise excessively. Particularly for insulin-dependent patients, step-by-step learning is provided on the insulin units required at each meal to maintain euglycemia and prevent complications
